One also said “how can you like cars and drive the shit you drive.” I do drive garbage, as the roadkill guys will tell you thats part of the fun.
But I was not butthurt, as I’m not the one buying cars for a badge, I’m the one with a smile on my face in my mad rubbish cars that cost me less than 6 months of their lease payments.

I might be buying a 31 year old sporty economy hatchback. Having a love of cars doesn’t mean, you have to spend a tone of money on them, or drive fastest, “coolest” car you can buy.

I’ve had some folks asks why I’ve bought shitboxes if I’m so into cars. Well making them less shitty is a lot of the fun. Its a jeep car guy thing, they jsut dont get it

I get that they call the compact garbage....
wait.. are they saying that Twingos are garbage too?
*Looks outside*
Maybe they have a point I don’t see what they mean.. :P
On a more serious note, a student I was mentoring once asked me why didn’t just buy a Golf instead of my Twingo, because it’s French and a girls car. I just couldn’t bother to convince him that French cars don’t need to be bad. Why can’t all car people just accept that other car people just have other tastes/interests....

I like having a properly crap car (the e36) because I can do whatever I want to it and thrash it without worrying about it. Thats part of the fun.

My twingo gets called a girls car all the time, same as my Panda was called “gay”. How a car affects your sexual preference or genitals ill never know.

Word. Haven’t spent more than that yet...
initially.
In other news, I have two cars that don’t even run.

The e36 likes to leak all of its fluids on the floor but runs really well if you top it up religiously. The twingo has a very slightly dragging front brake (which im fixing this weekend) but is otherwise mechanically solid.

Yeah, I never get how that works either.
If a friend of me calls the Twingo a girls car I always tell them it is the opposite of those guys driving a Hummer as compensation for certain parts being small, haha.
It’s always men calling it a girls car though, women tend to find the Twingo cute, with which I have no problem at all.

At a previous job, I managed three employees one with an Infiniti on lease, another with an Acura MDX on lease and the third with an Audi A5 on lease.
I had my Pontiac Vibe.
I was also the only homeowner of the group, so there’s that.

I got shit from both genders haha, including my brothers (horrendously spoiled) gf.
After a while of people calling the Panda gay I just told them I was, since it wasnt the response they expected haha.

I cant into lease. Especially with how hilariously cheap used cars are in the UK. I got my twingo when is was a bit over 4 years old with 35k miles, cost me £3400. My BMW cost £280, rough as hell but with a full years valid inspection and running and driving properly.

That is truly the fun with a Miata as well. Even the nicest, cleanest version is cheap/common enough to thrash without worrying much. When my Miata got crashed up, I didnt really put much money into fixing it. Instead I put the money towards an upgraded suspension and better tires. Sure, its reliable so its not properly crap enough, but I thoroughly enjoy driving it like a race car during my daily commute.

Jeeps are inherently shitboxes... I love both of mine. I hate them so much. But, I love them. Stupid pieces of shit.
...The heater finally seems to be fully functional in my WJ (remove and install the dash twice in one day? Why not?), and I maybe have all the driveline vibes worked out of my XJ, so today is trending towards love.

I like the looks of disdain I get when I drive in my old faithful Pug, that said, the comments I hear when driving the Bel Air through town are nice too.
However, I can’t get myself to like the Twingo. I’d get this instead:

I needed cheap, modern, really cheap on insurance and reliable when I got the Twingo. So it was up against the likes of the pug 107, vw fox, ford ka etc. I think I made the right choice.

Isn’t the 106 cheaper than a Twingo? The only thing I see is that it’s less modern, but what’s the advantage of modern?
Then again, who cares, if you’re happy with it it’s the only thing that matters.

Just harder to trust it for the mileage i do. Id rather not take a 15 year old 106 on a 650 mile round trip in a day like I have in the Twingo. If i was only using it for short distance commuting it wouldve been fine.

Sounds reasonable.
I used to drive over 1000 kilometers a week with my 27 year old 400k Peugeot 505 until 2 months ago, but that ones indestructible.

Yeah 106s arent quite that tough. We had a mechanically identical Saxo and that thing broke down a lot. Mostly age and abuse related but thats the case with most of them now since the newest ones are about 14 years old. Getting one clean and cared for enough to trust it for over 15k miles a year for several years would be an issue.
